Electric utilities in Cebu schedule power interruptions for line maintenance, new connections, tree trimming and upgrades. The schedules are posted on the utilities' websites and Facebook pages, often only days ahead, and are easy to miss. Pahibalo sends them to you for the barangays you choose.
What a brownout alert tells you
- The barangays affected, with yours listed first
- The date and the start and end time, including overnight work
- The reason the utility gave, such as line maintenance
- A link to the utility's official advisory
Areas and utilities
Power in Cebu comes from several utilities: Visayan Electric (VECO) for Metro Cebu, Mactan Electric (MECO) for Lapu-Lapu City and Cordova, and the Cebeco I, II and III electric cooperatives for the towns in the south, north and west of the province. We start with VECO's areas and add the others one by one. The Utilities we cover page shows the current status.
Changes and cancellations
Utilities sometimes move or cancel a scheduled brownout. When that happens, everyone who already got an alert receives an update, so you do not cancel plans for nothing.
Unscheduled brownouts
Sudden outages from faults, accidents, weather or grid problems are not announced in advance, so Pahibalo cannot warn you before them. Contact your utility directly for those.
